  • A GIS based Pipeline Information System for BPCL:

Problem/Objective

BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) is a leading public sector organization engaged in exploration and marketing of petroleum products. It is ranked amongst the top companies in the world. Bharat Petroleum produces a diverse range of products, from petrochemicals and solvents to aircraft fuel and specialty lubricants and markets them through its wide network of Petrol Stations, Kerosene Dealers, LPG Distributors, Lube Shoppe, besides supplying fuel directly to hundreds of industries, and several international and domestic airlines. BPLC has a large network of pipeline for transporting petroleum products. Pipeline is one of the fastest and most convenient ways of transporting petroleum products. However the pipelines are costly and require monitoring and as they carry hazardous and combustible material. BPCL wanted a solution to monitor the pipelines.

ADCC ’ approach

ADCC offered a solution to maintain and monitor the pipeline carrying the combustible and hazardous petroleum products. ADCC developed a solution to monitor the entire stretch of pipeline from Manmad to Mumbai. The solution used existing SCADA system for the engineering details and interfaced it with a GIS based system by mapping the entire pipeline. The new system was now capable of monitoring the engineering details, the administrative details, and the safety features through a map interface.

  • Digitized base map of the entire region in and around the pipeline
  • Superimposition of road network
  • Superimposition of administrative details
  • Integrated pipeline/utility/asset management.
  • Intelligent analysis on map for emergency redressal
  • Complements safety measures / decision support system.

Technologies used

The solution for BPCL was developed using ASP.NET, SQL Server 2000, and Tatuk IS.

  • A real-time vehicle tracking solution for SAIL:

Problem/Objective

SAIL (Steel Authority Of India) is a leading public sector organization engaged in manufacturing Steel products. It is ranked amongst the top ten public sector companies in India in terms of turnover. It produces and sells both basic and special steels for domestic construction, engineering, power, railway, automotive and defense industries and for sale in export markets. One of the major areas of concern for SAIL was route optimization and time scheduling of locomotives towing ladles carrying molten iron. The ladles begin carrying molten iron at 1400 C, but by the time ladles reach the destination the temperature is 1200 C. Due to this the upper layer used to get hardened and was wasted. SAIL wanted to reduce this loss and wanted to optimize the route by tracking the ladles on a real time basis.

ADCC ’ approach

ADCC offered a solution to track the movement of locomotive carrying molten metal. ADCC implemented its fleet locator solution based on GIS-GPS-GSM technology to track and monitor locomotives on a real-time basis due to temperature sensitivity of molten iron. The solution fulfilled the need of SAIL to reduce the time span to travel for the locomotive by optimizing the route and tracking of unwanted stoppages and tracking travel bottlenecks.

  • Comprehensive fleet management system.
  • Route Optimization
  • Real-time functionality for
  • Tracking
  • Reporting
  • Controlling
  • Monitoring
  • Emergency – Cope up effectively
  • Digital Fence to ensure predefined route
  • MIS Reports

Technologies used

The solution for SAIL was developed using VB 6.0, SQL Server 2000, and Tatuk Kernel.

Client Comments

“This is really what we wanted from a long time. It facilitates better utilization of locomotives by optimizing the transport process.” -Mr. K.K Mallik, AGM SAIL.

  • A real-time vehicle tracking solution for Gujarat Police:

Problem/Objective

Gujarat police wanted a solution to track and monitor the entire procession of Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. This is a very huge annual event-taking place in Gujarat every year. The main objective was to conduct the whole event peacefully as the procession travels through communally sensitive areas.

ADCC ’ approach

ADCC offered a solution to track the movement of entire convoy for the procession. ADCC installed its fleet locator solution based on GIS-GPS-RF technology to track and monitor vehicles on a real-time basis. ADCC used the radio frequency network of Gujarat police (UHF/VHF) for tracking the entire convoy. Vehicles at the front and the back of the convoy were fitted with the system. The police could track and monitor the movement of the convoy through their control station located remotely at police headquarters. The solution fulfilled the need for real-time GPS tracking, messaging, routing, control, and management of the convoy.
